The Mexican Caribbean is a very popular destination, as it has a wide variety of great attractions for both children and adults, which draw entire families to visit our destinations such as Cancun and Riviera Maya (straddled by Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum) Cozumel, Isla Mujeres and Holbox, among others.
From relaxing underneath a palapa in front of the sea to performing thrilling activities in the middle of the lush Mayan jungle, the Mexican Caribbean will be the perfect place to spend the vacation of a lifetime full of unforgettable moments.
Cancun
Due to its spectacular stark white sand that contrasts beautifully with its turquoise waters and painted skies, Cancun is undoubtedly a favorite among families from all around the world –some of which have even made Cancun their annual holiday destination. One of the best things to do is visit one or many of the natural and amusement parks that are located in the region. Along Cancun´s popular hotel zone you will find an impressive amusement park that features attractions for the whole family, while in Puerto Morelos and the Riviera Maya you will have different options to choose from. At these parks, you can perform zipline, ride ATV's, swim in an underwater river, rappel inside a cenote, bike through the jungle, etc.
If you love the nightlife, one of the best options is to experience the authentic Mexican party aboard a colorful gondola-like boat called “trajinera”. Trying nothing but a wide variety of Mexican dishes and treats, listening to live mariachi bands. Great party and lots of fun!
If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, then we recommend you to ride on a pirate boat sailing the beautiful waters of the Caribbean Sea aboard a Spanish galleon replica in which you will witness epic battles while enjoying the delicious Surf & Turf dinner and the best drinks and music. A very recommended experience for all the family. Spectacular views and fun are included.
Isla Mujeres
Located just off the coast of Cancun, –about a 20-minute ferry ride from the mainland– Isla Mujeres has everything you can expect from an island: exuberant nature, abundant wildlife and idyllic beaches.
Here, you and your family will enjoy endless beach days, fresh seafood and refreshing drinks at Playa Norte; ranked as one of the 10 best beaches in the world.
If you are an adrenaline junkie, head to the southern part of the island, where you will find Garrafon Park. Kayaks and ziplines through the Caribbean Sea, you can also snorkel to admire the abundant marine life on its reefs. Another must-see place is Punta Sur; the highest point on the island –reaching up to 20 meters above sea level– where you and can soak in the panoramic views, perfectly carved cliffs, the imposing Caribbean Sea, as well as the Cancun Bay and Isla Mujeres Bay.
Stroll along its Sculpture Park, where you will find colorful-metal sculptures, as well as a temple, which is fittingly dedicated to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of love, the moon, fertility, and health.
From May through September, Isla Mujeres and Holbox receive their most expected visitors, the fascinating whale sharks. Interacting with them is an adventure worth living.
Holbox
Due to its low tide beaches and cays, Holbox is the perfect destination to visit along with your kids. Enjoy a beach day under the shade of a palapa at one of its many beach clubs where you may enjoy a live band or DJ to liven up your day and try some delicious dishes with the catch of the day.
It is a two-hour drive to get from Cancun to Chiquilá, a little town where you can take the ferry to the island of Holbox.
The families that are looking to get away from the crowds and be surrounded by nature find in Holbox a true sanctuary where they can interact with fascinating species, such as the whale shark, and admire the beautiful pink flamingoes that can be seen from April to October mostly on Isla Pájaros (Bird Island), one of the islets that are part of the “Three Island tour” offered by many tour providers.
This tour also takes you to Isla Pasión (Passion Island) and Yalahau –a cenote, which according to an old legend is known as the “source of eternal youth.”
Riviera Maya
Located in the South of Cancun, the Riviera Maya is straddled by Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, where you and your family can enjoy all kinds of thrilling and fun activities in some of the most amazing natural sceneries.
Vacationing in Riviera Maya and not visiting any of its cenotes would be considerate as if you had not come. The ts´onot, as they were called by the Mayans are ancient rock formations that arise from filtrations of rainwater and the collapse of cave roofs, which form a type of natural pools. These cenotes are all connected to each other by the Sac-Actun System which feeds them underground. Some of the best cenotes located along the Riviera Maya are Cenote Zapote, La Noria, Kin-Há, Cenote Dos Ojos, Cenote Calavera, Jardín del Edén and Casa Cenote. Do not miss the opportunity to see these natural wonders, where you will be able to swim, paddleboard, kayak, snorkel and scuba dive.
