Escape - Wonder - Imagine

Isla Mujeres

The island where Mexico's day begins.

Isla Mujeres is a Pueblo Mágico seven kilometers long, twenty minutes by ferry from Cancun: colorful houses, warm people and a relaxed pace; you get around by golf cart.

Its waters are the setting for snorkeling and diving at Garrafón Park, Manchones reef and MUSA; at the southern tip, Punta Sur holds the temple of the goddess Ixchel.

Playa Norte

Playa Norte is one of Isla Mujeres' signature spots. White sand, shallow water and a generally gentle surf make it an ideal place to enjoy the Caribbean Sea.

Under water

MUSA, Manchones and Garrafon Park

More than twenty snorkeling and dive sites ring the island, from three to thirty meters deep: Manchones reef with the Cross of the Bay, El Farito, the C-55 and UltraFreeze wrecks, and MUSA, with more than 500 submerged sculptures. At Garrafón Park you snorkel in a reef cove, and a zip line crosses over the sea.

Punta Sur

Cliffs and the temple of Ixchel

Punta Sur, Mexico's easternmost point, is the first place in the country to see the sunrise. Its cliffs, twenty meters above the open sea, hold a sculpture park and the remains of the Maya temple dedicated to Ixchel.

Nature

Whale sharks, sailfish and Isla Contoy

From May to September whale sharks feed in the waters between Isla Mujeres and Holbox, and dolphins and giant manta rays often join the swim; from December to March you dive with sailfish. Thirty kilometers north, Isla Contoy, an uninhabited national park, is one of the most important bird sanctuaries in the Mexican Caribbean, with more than 210 species recorded.
