Museo Maya de Cancún

It safeguards one of the most remarkable collections of Mayan cultural artifacts in the country, encompassing pieces from diverse Mayan sites in Quintana Roo, Palenque, and Chichen Itza. The initial gallery of the museum focuses on the archaeology of our state (Quintana Roo), while the second gallery provides in-depth insights into various aspects of the Mayan civilization. Additionally, the third gallery is dedicated to hosting temporary exhibitions.

Moreover, the museum visit includes the opportunity to explore the San Miguelito Archaeological Zone. A pathway starting from the lower corridor of the museum leads to this site, which comprises several architectural complexes. Notable features include the Great Pyramid, which prominently stands as the central structure, as well as the South complex consisting of residential units, a palatial building, and small altars. Another area, known as Dragons, earned its name when snakeheads were discovered in the 1970s, and locals mistakenly identified them as dragons. Within this area, a temple houses fragments of wall paintings adorned with animal and marine motifs.
